Uninsured/underinsured motorists protection

Uninsured motorists bodily injury coverage provides protection if you are involved in an auto accident with another vehicle lacking auto insurance that is at least partially at fault for the accident and essentially provides the bodily injury protection that would provide a payment to you had the other auto been insured. Underinsured motorists protection is the same sort of thing when the other auto is covered by lower limits of bodily injury liability than you carry on your auto policy, the coverage providing protection as if the other party carried the same liability limits as you yourself do. Uninsured/underinsured motorists property damage liability is the same sort of thing for damage to your vehicle - the extent of the coverage varies according to whether or not you purchase comprehensive and collision coverage for your vehicle.  We refer to all of this collectively as UM/UIM coverage.
